Amnesty International Protecting Individuals Where Justice Fails

Human rights and freedom are fundamental to every individual in any part of the world. However true this is, most people, more so those from marginalized groups or areas, are always denied or have their rights abused very often. It is for this reason that Amnesty International was formed.

Amnesty International’s journey dates way back in 1961 after two Portuguese students were arrested and detained for toasting to freedom. From this incident, a publication was posted that received huge support from all corners of the world hence the establishment of this noble cause. Learn more about Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin: and

The mission of the group is to find facts of what is happening around the world and rally people to come together and force governments and perpetrators of such heinous offenses to respect the fundamental rights of people.

So far the progress made by these organizations is recommendable. Last year, Amnesty International helped in freeing 153 individuals who had been wrongfully detained for their origin and their belief systems. In addition to this, the organization helped influence and change laws in different countries around refugees, free speech, LGBT fair treatment, death penalty, and reproductive rights among other issues.

Fundamentally, this nonprofit organization has relied on the help of volunteers and its three-step model in the championing of human rights. First, Amnesty International does research on affected areas to uncover cases and individuals whose rights have been abused. Read more:  Michael Lacey | Twitter and Jim Larkin | LinkedIn

After this, the organization empowers its grassroots support with knowledge and tools they need to demand the protection of their human rights from the necessary authorities. Lastly, Amnesty International’s competent legal team directly engages with leaders and policymakers at different state levels to influence the change of certain infringing laws.

In order to properly execute its duties, in addition to volunteers, Amnesty International has relied on the help of funding organizations such as the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund.
